BMW X4

Yet another rumor concerning the crossover segment.

Top of the lineup will be a performance orientated X4M model boasting styling upgrades, a future twin turbocharged inline six cylinder and a seven speed DCT dual clutch gearbox from the BMW M division. Autoweek reports that the car was first proposed by in-house designers in 2006. However, capacity concerns at Magna’s factory in Graz, Austria, where the first-generation X3 was assembled, ultimately led BMW to postpone a decision on its future. Things changed when the second-gen X3 production switched to Spartanburg, S.C

BMW will be expanding its production capacity at the Spartanburg plant from 150,000 units to 240,000 units per year to accomodate the manufacturing of the X4. Insider source at BMW told Bimmerfest that the X4 has been scheduled to be presented as a concept car sometime next year. Expect the production version to be launched in late 2013 or early 2014.
