Aston Martin DB10 – The Most Exclusive Bond Car Ever Made

Espada and Islero debuted at the 1968 Geneva Auto Show.

Espada and Islero debuted at the 1968 Geneva Auto Show. Fifty years later, Lamborghini Polo Storico is beginning to celebrate their anniversary by paying them homage at the Techno Classica 2018 in Essen, from March 21 to 25.

One of the two Lamborghini classic vehicles showcased at the world-leading fair of the classic sector is a Series III Espada from 1976. With nearly 1.300 units produced from 1968 to 1978, the Espada became Lamborghini’s bestseller during its ten-year lifecycle and the second-best selling model among the classic cars of the Sant’Agata-based company. While the engine and the interior underwent modifications with each of the three series (S1: 1968 - 1970, S2: 1970 - 1972, S3: 1972 - 1978), the design and the bodywork remained almost untouched. Its beating heart, the powerful V8 engine, enabled this eye-catcher to effortlessly reach its goal: maximum speed. According to the versions, continuous improvements enabled it to reach up to 250 km/h. On top of this, being the expression of the Italian Gran Turismo, the success of this luxurious four-seater for grand tours came as no surprise.

The Polo Storico, the specialist department located inside Lamborghini’s headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, is currently involved in the ten-month restoration project of the exposed Espada with blue exterior and a mustard interior. The overhauling of chassis, body, electrical system and mechanics is aimed at recreating the original lines specified on the original production sheet, using only Lamborghini Original Spare Parts. Once the restoration is concluded in May 2018, this car, property of the House of the Raging Bull, will be displayed at the Lamborghini Museum.

Produced between 1968 and 1970 in just over 220 units, the Islero was the successor of the 400 GT, equipped with the same 4.0 l V12 engine with 320 hp. The one displayed in Essen as a rare Islero S in Rio Green with a Tobacco interior is one of the only 70 S models with 350 hp. This emblem of power and luxury goes back to 1969 and presents enhancements to the bodywork and interior that make it even more elegant.

As part of its activities, the Lamborghini Polo Storico reproduces original manuals for historic models that replicate the original layout, printing and binding processes. On the occasion of their 50th anniversary, the specialist department created the reprints of two rare Espada owner manuals (10/70 and 3/73) as well as one of the Islero S owner manuals that the visitors can see in Essen.

Surround yourself with nature, history, good food, good wine, outstanding views and join the Lamborghini Espada & Islero 50th Anniversary Tour to discover Umbria.
Ever-changing and untouched landscapes in the green of winding valleys make Umbria a region that will never fail to amaze. After driving for 700km, the tour then leads you to the Lamborghini factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy.
