Polestar 1 Crash Test

Chapter 1: Crash Test The Polestar 1 is tested in every conceivable condition and environment. These cars are optimized for snow, rain, blistering heat, arctic cold, and every road surface imaginable. The Polestar 1 will provide a peerless driver experience under any circumstances, and the testing process is designed to make that a certainty. It’s not enough to only test for the predictable, however. It’s also imperative to test for the unpredictable. Accidents aren’t planned, but they can be planned for. And plan for them we do, by putting the verification prototype cars through crash tests at different speeds and various angles. It’s dramatic. It’s exhilarating. And it’s necessary.

Polestar 1 Prototype Production

FIRST POLESTAR 1 PROTOTYPE CARS START PRODUCTION Momentum in the development of the Polestar 1 has increased with the production of the first series of road-going verification prototype (VP) cars in Sweden. Produced for a number of purposes including crash tests, weather testing and on-road assessment, the VP cars form the very first fleet of Polestar 1 cars on the road. Construction of the cars, which takes place in a specialised prototype production facility in Gothenburg, is largely done by hand. It acts as the first testing phase for production of Polestar 1 customer cars which will be built at the new Polestar Production Centre in Chengdu, China. The carbon fibre-body of the Polestar 1 required the development of new specialised production equipment and construction techniques that will be transferred to the factory and used to build the production cars. “The assembly of the VP cars means that the Polestar 1 has taken its next step towards production,” says Thomas Ingen

Carbon fiber plays integral role in Polestar 1 development

One of the key components in creating a responsive and agile driving experience in the new Polestar 1 is the extensive use of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP). Producing an overall weight savings of more than 500lbs versus steel. Most of the main body panels are constructed from this high-tech and lightweight material, making it a core contributor to the dynamic handling of the Polestar 1.  The Polestar 1’s carbon fiber body represents the first time that the Volvo Car Group has explored carbon fiber construction – an example of how Polestar acts as a technology spearhead for the Group. The Polestar Production Center, which is currently under construction and due to begin full-scale production in mid-2019, is being specifically tooled to deal with the intricate nature of carbon fiber construction.  Carbon fiber components have been used extensively in the car’s structure, including the hood, trunk, side body panels, doors and the entire roof structure. “The Polestar 1 fe

Polestar 1 to make dynamic public debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed

The Polestar 1 is set to make its first dynamic appearance at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed from 12-15 July. Festivalgoers will see prototype #004 of the two-door Electric Performance Hybrid charge up the famous hill climb, set in the grounds of Goodwood House in West Sussex, England. Driven by Polestar chief test driver Joakim Rydholm, the drives are part of the continued global launch of the Polestar brand and the Polestar 1. It is an opportunity for enthusiasts and the public to get a closer look at the design and performance of the car as it continues its real-world performance, chassis and suspension-testing program.  “I am really excited to drive the Polestar 1 prototype up the hill at Goodwood,” enthused Joakim Rydholm. “Driving the hill climb has been a long-time ambition for me, and to be able to do it in the same prototype in which we’ve spent so many months of development time, is truly special.” Polestar will also be present in the manufacturer area of th
