THE RESURRECTION: 1200 HP ZL1 1LE Camaro

Las Vegas (November 5, 2019)—The Team from Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) has created the most powerful production series Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE: THE HENNESSEY RESURRECTION, which will be unveiled on Tuesday, November 5 at 11:30 am at the 2019 SEMA Show in Las Vegas in the Shell Pioneering Performance Experience (booth 60003). Following in the footsteps of THE EXORCIST, the company’s 1000 bhp ZL1 Camaro, Hennessey has now taken the ZL1 1LE to the next level. The heart of THE RESURRECTION begins by removing the ZL1’s 650 bhp supercharged LT4 engine and replacing it with the 755 bhp LT5 engine from the Corvette ZR1. The Hennessey Team then further tunes the LT5, running on Shell E85 biofuel, and increases power to 1200 bhp @ 6800 rpm! “He is Risen!” said company founder and chief horsepower evangelist, John Hennessey. “Our team has been waiting to offer a more powerful version of THE EXORCIST but we just needed a cool name to fit the car. THE RESURRECTION seemed to be t...

Lucid Air: First Stability Test at 217mph

In preparation for production, Lucid Air alpha prototypes are undergoing a rigorous development program. With  winter testing  complete, we now turn our testing program to spring and summer activities. We recently designated one of our test prototypes as a high-performance test vehicle and installed a roll-cage for safety purposes. This Alpha Speed Car will be used for evaluating at-the-limit performance. For the Alpha Speed Car’s first test session, we headed to TRC Ohio’s 7.5-mile oval test track to evaluate high-speed behaviors, including vehicle stability and powertrain thermal management. The test, software-limited to 217mph (350km/h), was successful in demonstrating the capabilities of the car and in finding areas for improvement that could not be properly evaluated in static bench tests. Real-world tests are an important part of the engineering process, allowing the team to correlate computer simulation models with real-world performance. The collected data wil...

Chevrolet Concept Cars: Ten Of Our Favorites

Most celebrations of Chevrolet's centennial surround the automaker's production vehicles. Why not? After all, this is the brand that birthed legends like the Bel Air, Corvette, and Camaro, among others. Those vehicles are certainly worth celebrating, but we can't help but wonder: what about the Chevrolet cars that never saw a production line? We've scoured through the history books (and our memory banks) to pick out ten of our all-time favorites.

1985 Audi Sport Quattro: The Group B Homologation Special

In Austria in 1980, just a year after four-wheel drive cars became eligible to compete in the WRC, Audi debuted the first Quattro rally car and forever changed the sport. Over the next half of the decade (and onwards, if you count the Pikes Peak specials), these Audis would be subjected to a period of rapid iterative evolution that led to the short-wheelbase Sport Quattro models that helped define the infamously fast and dangerous era of Group B rallying. The relatively lax nature of the Group B regulations gave rise to a number of downright ferocious cars from Audi’s competitors (most notable being Lancia and Peugeot), and while it was not the most successful nor technologically advanced of these top tier cars by the end of the Group B era, the Sport Quattro is a worthy poster child for the lot of them—being first to the punch has its advantages. The advent of the Group B class provided manufacturers with practically every leeway imaginable given they adhered to a basic s...
