2hrs | The Cien

07.1 8 .19 2002 Cadillac Cien In the year 2019 , Lincoln Six Echo (Ewan McGregor) lives in an isolated facility, far removed from the radioactive wasteland outside, in which residents await transport to “the island,” a utopian paradise. However, most are unaware that they are actually “agnates”--clones that only exist to harvest body parts for their wealthy “sponsors.” In order to reveal the truth, Lincoln Six Echo searches for his sponsor, Tom Lincoln, all the while being pursued by a private security team attempting to prevent the story from coming out.   In the movie, the Lincolns evade capture in Tom’s “2009 Caddy” - already a decade old within the narrative. The car was based on the real-world 2002 Cadillac Cien, a dramatic concept vehicle built to celebrate the brand’s 100th anniversary. Futuristic in appearance and exuding luxury, the Cien fit neatly into the near-future world and wealth of Tom’s character. To ensure the safety of the one-off concept, a fu...

New Generation Corvette Renderings

Corvette has a very rich heritage in creating beautifully designed cars. The next generation has every chance to be the worlds most beautiful car in production due to its mid engine layout. Is this?  It would be very hard not to design something very emotional and appealing in this configuration. Most of the manufacturers managed it. Most of them came up with modern-looking stylish vocabulary implemented in the ME design language.  We are talking about GM.  Their last ME design was the Cien , something so perfect that after almost 20 years it still looks like automotive design had stopped somewhere and forgot to evolve. The one before the Cadillac Cien may have been the CERVIII and the Indy . No comments here either. Just take a look at the two most advanced designs ever. Which brings us to the next question.  So will this really be the new Corvette?   Ask yourself just how evolved does this look like? Compare it to its competition. Oh, it...

The mid-engine Corvette is 60 years in the making

by Hagerty GM’s worst-kept secret is that the eighth generation Corvette will have a mid-engine layout, enabling design, performance, and engineering that will rival the best of Italy’s supercars. To tide you over until the C8 appears on the show circuit in 2019, here’s a capsule history of past mid-engine experiments. During a visit to Zora Arkus-Duntov’s home to pose a single question—Why were you so obsessed with mid-engine designs?—the Corvette’s patron saint confided that his inspiration dated all the way back to 1957, following the Corvette SS’s DNF at the 12 Hours of Sebring. “That’s when I concluded that the heat source [the engine] must be located behind the driver,” he said. Although the official explanation of the DNF was a failure of a rear suspension bushing after only 23 laps of racing, driver John Fitch’s feet were being cooked by the eight uninsulated exhaust pipes located in close proximity to the magnesium firewall and floor panels. The inherent advantage...
