I'm Ben Collins AKA 'The Stig' - Ask Me Anything!

1. If you could come up with your own “some say” intro for The Stig, what would it be? ‘Some say they should just give me the keys and let me drive without the damn intro!’ 2. How did you get the job? What kind of training did you go through to become such a badass driver? ‘Still learning – I had the best teachers which is to say i’ve raced some big talents and you have to learn quickly or finish 2nd all the time. I got the job by writing to the boss, meeting him and then driving a car – quickly. Quite traditional. I beat the Old Stig’s lap times and got hired – SWEET!’ 3. Do you really have 600 testicles? ‘Yes – i carry them like scalps in my leather satchel from every driver that ever hogged the middle lane on the M4.’ 5. Top Gear or Fifth Gear? ‘Top Gear. You can’t beat a big fat hairy budget.’ 6. For how long had you had access for each supercar? Was it only one or two fast laps or whole day? ‘The tyres can’t take more than 5/6 laps on the supercars and we rarely had spares so it w...

Chevrolet Concept Cars: Ten Of Our Favorites

1985 Audi Sport Quattro: The Group B Homologation Special

In Austria in 1980, just a year after four-wheel drive cars became eligible to compete in the WRC, Audi debuted the first Quattro rally car and forever changed the sport. Over the next half of the decade (and onwards, if you count the Pikes Peak specials), these Audis would be subjected to a period of rapid iterative evolution that led to the short-wheelbase Sport Quattro models that helped define the infamously fast and dangerous era of Group B rallying. The relatively lax nature of the Group B regulations gave rise to a number of downright ferocious cars from Audi’s competitors (most notable being Lancia and Peugeot), and while it was not the most successful nor technologically advanced of these top tier cars by the end of the Group B era, the Sport Quattro is a worthy poster child for the lot of them—being first to the punch has its advantages. The advent of the Group B class provided manufacturers with practically every leeway imaginable given they adhered to a basic s...
