The super-efficient Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid - one of the best-selling hybrid-electrified vehicles in Europe in 2013 - is now also available in Volvo Cars’ R-Design version.

“We sold almost 8,000 plug-in hybrids in 2013. Adding the R-Design dynamic attributes to the V60 Plug-in Hybrid – the world’s first diesel plug-in hybrid -  will give its attractiveness another boost. The customer gets segment-topping performance combined with outstanding efficiency,” says Alain Visser, Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Car Group.

Unique exterior and interior
The V60 Plug-in Hybrid R-Design version features a number of unique interior and exterior features that create a sporty presence. The exterior blends the Plug-in Hybrid identification with the R-Design front, rear diffusor and 18-inch ‘Ixion’ wheels.

Inside, the car comes with a full R-Design interior design. Sport seats, featuring a blend of black nubuck textile and perforated leather, are standard. By blending inlays with a perforated look, black leather and contrasting stitching, the design team has created an R-design interior with all the details in perfect harmony, crowned by the black headliner. The car retains the special plug-in hybrid instrumentation and information.

Ingenious power blend
The front wheels of the V60 Plug-in Hybrid are powered by a five-cylinder 2.4-litre turbodiesel producing 215 hp and 440 Nm of torque. The car has a six-speed automatic transmission.

The rear axle is powered by an electric motor producing 68 horsepower and 200 Nm. It is supplied with power from an 11.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack installed under the floor of the load compartment. The 2015 Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid R-Design

Pure Hybrid Power
The driver selects the required driving mode via three buttons that give the car three entirely different temperaments: Pure, Hybrid or Power.

In the default hybrid mode, the carbon dioxide emissions are down to just 48g/km. This corresponds to fuel consumption of 1.8 litres/100 km (NEDC certification driving cycle for hybrids).

What is more, at the touch of a button the driver can choose to cover up to 50 kilometres on pure electric power – or utilise the combined capacity of the diesel engine and electric motor to create a veritable driving machine that offers 283 horsepower and 640 Nm of torque. The 2015 Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid R-Design

We've scoured through the history books (and our memory banks) to pick out ten of our all-time favorites.

Aventador S | The design draws inspiration from predators and aeronautics

As much as the Aventador is the car most entitled to represent the Lamborghini brand values, the Aventador S is the expression of the Lamborghini flagship par excellence, embodying the utmost synergy between design and engineering in pure Lamborghini style. The “S” has existed for 50 years The first Lamborghini S model was launched 50 years ago to represent the evolution of already revered icons. In fact, the further development of the Miura into a more improved version dates back to 1968, followed by Islero, Countach and Urraco. When the Aventador reaped this legacy and decided to surpass itself, the Aventador S was born. The design draws inspiration from predators and aeronautics The Aventador S presents pure refinement of the iconic design that remains true to the Lamborghini DNA, enhancing its mix of dynamism, refinement and aggressiveness. The sharp lines and surfaces of the front end evoke images of a shark fin, transmitting the same force and elegance when d...

1985 Audi Sport Quattro: The Group B Homologation Special

In Austria in 1980, just a year after four-wheel drive cars became eligible to compete in the WRC, Audi debuted the first Quattro rally car and forever changed the sport. Over the next half of the decade (and onwards, if you count the Pikes Peak specials), these Audis would be subjected to a period of rapid iterative evolution that led to the short-wheelbase Sport Quattro models that helped define the infamously fast and dangerous era of Group B rallying. The relatively lax nature of the Group B regulations gave rise to a number of downright ferocious cars from Audi’s competitors (most notable being Lancia and Peugeot), and while it was not the most successful nor technologically advanced of these top tier cars by the end of the Group B era, the Sport Quattro is a worthy poster child for the lot of them—being first to the punch has its advantages. The advent of the Group B class provided manufacturers with practically every leeway imaginable given they adhered to a basic s...
